At least once a year, a report shows up about a team that is searching for, or even has found, remnants of the ancient Noah’s Ark, presumably on Mount Arafat in Turkey. There is no follow-up and we can only assume that the search was fruitless or the “remnant” proved not to be authentic. So, on goes the fruitless search. Perhaps the searchers should give up – for several reasons. (1) There is no evidence of a worldwide flood at any recent time. (2) If it were true, the Flood would have taken place about 8,000 years ago and any remnants would have dissolved by this time. (3) The story is likely an enhanced fable occasioned by a local flood event and perhaps an escape by a close-knit group of people in a primitive boat. (4) Rounding up the diversity of extant animals (and thousands – if not millions - of species) at the time to save them two by two would have been a daunting task, were it even possible. (5) Even if carnivores consumed herbivores, feeding those animals for many, many days wouldn’t have been possible. (6) The mountains of the region have been combed all over and some relic would have been found, were something there. (7) Flood stories are common in the folklore of other cultures. All are apocryphal, enhanced legends of some remote past event that gains importance in the history of a tribal people.
