Why is the President so adamant against releasing he Epstein file?
During THE 2024 Presidential campaign, Donald Trump called for release of the FBI file on Jeffrey Epstein, promising to release it after he became President. Now that he is President, and after Attorney Genera Pam Bondi announced that Trump’s name appears in the file and that it was sitting on her desk, Trump has reversed himself and done everything in his power to prevent release of the file – and Bondi has gone along with his subterfuge. So, the obvious question that arises is: why has Trump changed his mind about releasing the file?
It is acknowledged that there are names contained in the file, presumably of prominent figures who participated in Epstein’s sexual escapades – and who may be guilty of sexual abuse with a minor. Could Donald Trump be one of those figures. Of course, for one’s name to be in the file doesn’t indicate participation in sexual behavior. We will never know until the file is released. But, why is Donald Trump fighting so hard for the file not to be released? Is Trump protecting others he feels should not be pilloried by the media and the public? Or is Trump actually protecting himself?
The file has been subpoenaed by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and is now being transferred in small units, so far consisting, for the most part, of materials that had been previously been released to the public. It’s obvious that compliance with the subpoena by the Department of Justice will proceed as slowly as possible.
We can only conjecture what is behind the reticence of DOJ to respond to the subpoena – but the likelihood is that it is Trump who is identified as a co-participant in Epstein’s offensive, if not illegal, behavior. According to Trump’s own admission, he a Epstein were close friends, even “best friends”, over a fifteen year period – and shared some “secrets”. Being that close, so sympatico, it’s likely they knew about each other’s misbehaviors. Trump’s demeaning behavior toward women was revealed in the Hollywood Access tape that emerged during his first Presidential campaign in 1916. If Trump participated with Epstein in sexual misbehavior with underage girls, it would be no surprise. I even recall a story about a lawsuit filed by a 13 year-old girl alleging misbehavior by Trump at Epstein’s townhouse in New York that was settled out of court.
It's a safe bet that Trump will do whatever he can to prevent release of any damaging material contained in the Epstein files. Should such information be made public, he will no doubt do what he can to ignore, deny or invalidate it. Will it matter? Will it cause him to resign the Presidency? That’s doubtful. He will do what he can to bluster through it until his term ends. That’s a long wait. Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s pause to see what the files reveal. These things take time, and it’s difficult to wait. More to come.
